Movie Review: My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

In 2019 I found some old Word documents with movie reviews I wrote back before I had a blog. I’m posting each review backdated to the day I wrote it.

Title: My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Release Date: April 19, 2002
Director: Joel Zwick
Production Company: Gold Circle Films | HBO Films | MPH Entertainment | Playtone
Summary/Review:

This comedy relies on very sitcom-esque humor, but a good sitcom.  It does rely on ethnic stereotypes, but interestingly the same jokes could be made whether the family was Mexican, Irish, or Italian (or any other ethnicity).  It really is the oft-told story of tight-knit family traditions versus the mainstream culture.  I particularly liked the brother who keep teaching Greek vulgarities to the groom.

Rating: **1/2
