Beer Review: Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier

Beer: Hefeweissbier
Brewer: Weihenstephan
Source: 12 fl. oz. bottle
Rating: ***** (9.1 of 10)
Comments: Every since visiting Bavaria four years ago, I’ve been enamored with wheat beers, especially the hefeweizen. Problem is that it is hard to come by good hefe in the States especially since it tastes best when poured from the tap into a mug, preferably one of those ginormous mas mugs. One can get Paulaner at Grendel’s Den and as far as bottles go, the Harpoon UFO is surprisingly the best. Until now. “Nectar of the Gods” is something to not throw around lightly, but Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier approaches the best hefe experience I’ve ever had outside of a beer hall. It pours out cloudy with a rich, foamy head like it should, gives off that sweet yeasty aroma, and tastes divine. I’ll be looking for this in stores again. Weihenstephan claims to be the world’s oldest brewery, so I guess they should know how to do it right.
