JP A to Z: C is for Construction #AtoZChallenge #JamaicaPlain

C is for Construction

Jamaica Plain is a changing neighborhood and nowhere is that more evident than in the many construction projects underway.

C is also for Casey Arborway.  Once there was an elevated highway cutting through the Forest Hills neighborhood of Jamaica Plain.  Many of us fought to have it permanently removed.  It was quite fascinating to watch the demolition, but now it’s quite dull waiting for the new at-grade street to be completed.  Should be done by the end of September, though.

Meanwhile, since the highway came down, new buildings are going up!  I have mixed feelings about this.  Happy to welcome new neighbors and for increased density and all the benefits it provides, but it seems that only the fabulously wealthy will get to live in a lot of the new housing.

This building was demolished just a few days after this photograph.

Even the library is under construction.
