When did I first watch this movie?: mid-80s (after I saw Aliens)
Why is this one of my all time favorites?: A minimalist horror film that allows the tension to build until it’s almost unbearable, and a metaphor for everything from misogyny to pandemic preparedness.

Why is this one of my all time favorites?: Kind of feels like a cheat listing these movies back to back, but it’s a rare instance of a sequel being an equally great movie while somehow also being a completely different genre.

Why is this one of my all time favorites?: Modern Paris becomes a playground of magical realism with Tatou portraying the best example of introvert as protagonist in a film.

Why is this one of my all time favorites?: Adapted from John Steinbeck’s classic novel, this film exposes the prejudice and capitalistic exploitation of Okies escaping The Dust Bowl but also their perseverance.

When did I first watch this movie?: Late 90s
Why is this one of my all time favorites?: A beautifully filmed reflection on mortality and the meaning(lessness) of life that is also surprisingly funny.
