I regret that I must share this song by Christy Moore, because it is so very cheezy, but I do love it so. Join me on
“The Voyage” is the title track off the 1989 album by legendary Irish singer-songwriter Christy Moore. It’s a long metaphor about a couple of people who love one another – a sailor and the first mate – going on the journey through their relationship. To drive the metaphor home, the chorus ends with the lyric:
When we started the voyage, there was just me and you
Now gathered round us, we have our own crew
It’s so very, very, very cheezy, but I get …. emotional … when I hear it. I even put it on a mixtape for Susan. Luckily, she thought it was sweet and didn’t laugh at me. And we continue our voyage together with our own crew gathered around us.
