Beer Review: Jack’s Abby Leisure Time

Beer: Leisure Time Lager
Brewer: Jack’s Abby Brewing
Source: 12 oz. bottle
Rating: ** (6.8 of 10)
Comments: This beer poured out is golden in color with a cloud hanging in the upper part of the glass resembling a jellyfish.  The aroma is a strong lemon citrus.   Flavor is a mix of bready sweetness, lemon, and spice.  The flavors are subtly bordering on bland.  It’s a pretty beer, good but basic.

Beer Review: Yuengling Traditional Lager

Beer: Yuengling Traditional Lager
Brewer: Yuengling Brewery
Source: Draft

Comments: Yuengling has long been a sentimental favorite.  First, the Yuengling Brewery is based in the same Pennsylvania county where by grandparents lived when I was a child.  Second, when I came of age in Virginia and began drinking beer regularly, Yuengling was a standard.  I’ve missed it since I moved to Massachusetts and was happy to see it reintroduced to the commonwealth this year.  So, recently when a friend and I went to a swanky bar in the South End, I saw that Yuengling was on tap (and furthermore was the only reasonably priced beer on tap).  And …. it wasn’t as good as I remembered.  The flavor isn’t strong and the aroma is tad skunky.  That being said, for the price it’s a decent quaff on a hot day.  So, I’ll add this back to my list of cheap beer standbys.

Beer Review: Jack’s Abby Lashes

Comments: This Munich-style lager has an attractive amber color with a pleasant balance of hops and malts.  The taste is malty and piney and not too bitter.  It has a nice head that leaves behind gentle  lacing.  On top of all this, I got a free glass from the James Gate pub.

Beer Review: Wild Blue Blueberry Lager

Beer: Wild Blue Blueberry Lager
Brewer: Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
Source: 12 oz. bottle
Rating: No stars (3.0 of 10)
Comments: Bleagh!  This “beer” looks purple with no head and gives off a sickly sweet aroma.  It tastes syrupy with a fairly high level of alcohol.  It seems more like a Mike’s Hard type of beverage than an actual beer.  The label says it contains natural flavors and fruit juice, but it tastes totally artificial.  Seems like I was suckered in again by a commercial brewery hiding their wares in with the craft brews.  Drink only if you have a sweet tooth and want to get drunk fast.

Beer Review: Jack’s Abby Jabby Brau

Beer: Jabby Brau

Comments:  Yet another new Massachusetts’ brewery, this one from Framingham, created this session lager.  The deep golden lager has a floral hoppy scent and offers a dry, bitter taste.  It has a malty finish to wash away the bitter hops and is a nice, drinkable beer.
