Beer Review: Ommegang Three-Eyed Raven

Beer: Game Of Thrones: Three-Eyed Raven
Brewer: Brewery Ommegang
Source: 750ml bottles
Rating: *** (6.6 of 10)
Comments: This is a Game of Thrones themed beer so there was a chance that drinking it would lead to choking, convulsions, and turning a deep shade of purple, but luckily that didn’t happen.  I actually found the beer to be somewhat bland.  It pours out a near black color with a thick head.  The nose is floral with hay, and the flavor is sweet with a bitter chocolate.  It’s not bad, just seems too tame for the story it’s tying into.

Beer Reviews: Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale

Beer: Red Barn Ale
BrewerThe Lost Abbey
Source: 1 pint, 9.4 fluid oz bottle
Rating: ** (6.7 of 10)
Comments: A golden, bubbly beer with an apricot aroma, and the flavor of a bread roll and spices with a grapefruit aftertaste.  There are clumps of lacing on the glass with a medium mouthfeel.  Not a flavor to my taste but the effort to make a balanced beer is evident

Comments: This beer is a trip to the farm in a bottle.  The beer pours out golden with a matrix of tiny bubbles.  The aroma is sweet timothy and the flavor is a subtle blend of grass and pepper.  There’s minimal lacing on the glass and a light mouthfeel.

Beer Review: Allagash Saison Ale

BeerAllagash Saison Ale
Brewer: Allagash Brewing Company
Source: Draft
Rating: **** (8.0 of 10)
Comments: A hazy pale yellow beer with light carbonation, this Farmhouse Ale offers a peppery spice aroma with hints of herb and citrus.  The taste is a pleasant balance of spice and citrus which leaves a fruity tingle on the tongue and a yeasty aftertaste.  There’s not much of a head or lacing after a few sips.  This is a tasty, complex beer.

Beer Reviews: Cambridge Brewing Company Sgt. Pepper

Beer: Sgt. Pepper
BrewerCambridge Brewing Company
Source: 22 oz, bottle
Rating: **** (8.1 of 10)
Comments:  Spicy and unique, this beer pours out golden with effervescence and a thin head.  The scent is spicy & yeasty and the flavor is a peppercorn spice balanced with a caramel malt.  I found it went well with a vegetable soup and quesadillas.
