Title: No One Will Save You
Release Date: September 19, 2023
Director: Brian Duffield
Production Company: 20th Century Studios | Star Thrower Entertainment
Summary/Review:
Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) is a young woman who lives alone in a house on the outskirts of a town who earns money by selling the dresses she makes by mail. She has severe social anxiety and it appears to be justified since when she visits town everyone appears to be hostile towards her. One night a creature invades her house, a classic tall and slender grey alien with telekinetic powers. Brynn spends most of the film fighting and escaping these aliens who in the style of Invasion of the Body Snatchers are controlling and duplicating the other humans.
Underneath the gripping drama of Brynn’s struggle with the aliens is the secret trauma of her past. This is slowly revealed and begins to explain Brynn’s circumstances and will ultimately decide her fate with the aliens. It’s a terrific use of traditional sci-fi/horror motifs to relate to the burdens of trauma and the need for self-forgiveness. Dever’s performance is compelling especially considering there is almost no spoken dialogue in this movie. This is definitely worth checking out if you like horror movies with a twist.
Note: I have some spoiler thoughts about the films conclusion that I’ve hidden below the trailer.
Rating: ***1/2
